HGAR’s Daniel Rand Named To NAR’s ‘30 Under 30’

Growing up in a real estate family—with his mother Marsha and brothers Greg, Matt and Joseph Rand—Dan Rand may have had his career calling at an early age. “I remember when I was a kid, helping to answer phones in the office,” he recalled. “My mom has always been an amazing role model.”
Fast forward to today, and Dan Rand, at just 29 years old, has been named as one of REALTOR Magazine’s annual “30 Under 30,” which honors the most promising young talent in the industry.
Each year, REALTOR Magazine determines the final list based on criteria including success in the real estate industry and notable skills, examples of creativity, and quality of leadership. Rand was selected from hundreds of applicants from across the country and the public voted on the final list.
“I was both thrilled and humbled to be named to this list,” said Rand, the Director of Home Services at Hudson United Mortgage, Title & Insurance, a division of Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty. This award actually comes on the heels of his “40 Under 40” honor last year from the Rockland Economic Development Corp.
Rand has been responsible for growing the firm’s mortgage, title and insurance brand, Hudson United. Rand said that last year alone, Hudson United’s mortgage originations grew by 90% and are currently on track to grow by more than 100% to reach $200 million in total annual funding.
In addition, the office staff has also grown from 15 to 42 employees. “I do a lot of recruiting and have managed to get some top professionals to join us,” he said. “We also deal with a variety of banks and insurance markets to find the most competitive products for our clients.”
Rand grew up in Nyack, where his father, Joseph, was a doctor. He got his initial start in real estate selling timeshares in Vail, CO. “It was a great experience and I also love outdoor sports like mountain biking and white water rafting,” he said.
Two years later, he returned to New York and graduated from NYU in 2013, joining the family business and starting up Hudson United Mortgage, Title & Insurance. He also holds a real estate broker’s license in New York and a salesperson’s license in New Jersey.
Rand attributed his success to the key team members around him. “I am so thankful for having such an amazing mortgage and insurance sales team. Our back office has never been this strong and I am excited to see what we can achieve in 2015 and beyond, he said.”
When it comes to his clients, Rand is happy when people are pleased with their service. “It’s always a pleasure to see the positives from all of our hard work,” he added.
He’s also actively involved with the Rand Fund, which raises funds for local charities. On October 6 at the Rockland Country Club, the firm will hold a golf outing named for his father Joseph James Rand, who passed away two years ago. The event is open to the public.
The White Plains resident is always “on the go” spending his time traveling back and forth from their Westchester, Rockland and New Jersey offices. In what little spare time he has, Rand enjoys snowboarding and boating on the Hudson River and Long Island Sound.
As he looks to the future, Rand is completely optimistic for Hudson United. “I think what makes us different is our holistic approach to service—we put our clients first and pay great attention to detail,” he said. “We also have a very strong company culture, and I think some of the biggest opportunities come to us because people like us and trust us.”
