HGAR’s Kramer to Receive WRO Fair Housing Award

WHITE PLAINS—Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors’ Board Director and civil rights and fair housing advocate Barry Kramer will receive the Pioneer of Fair Housing Award from non-profit housing services agency Westchester Residential Opportunities, Inc. at a dinner in his honor on Tuesday, June 30th.
The awards dinner for the popular and affable Realtor will be held at the Vintage Restaurant at 171 Main St. in White Plains beginning at 6 p.m.
Kramer is the principal broker of Westchester Choice Realty, Inc. in Eastchester, and a member since 2012 of WRO’s Board of Directors. He currently serves as Regional Vice President of the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors representing Westchester and Putnam counties. A long-time member of the Board of Directors of HGAR, he also serves on the association’s Fair Housing and Cultural Diversity Committee. His advocacy for housing has included pressing state lawmakers for Realtor and fair housing issues in Albany as a member and former vice chairman of HGAR’s Legislative Committee. He is also a member of the Realtors Political Action Committee (RPAC).
On the state level, Kramer has served since 2006 on the board of directors of the New York State Association of Realtors and is currently a member of NYSAR’s Fair Housing and Diversity Committee and has served as its Chair. He is also Vice-Chairman of the NYSAR Co-op Working Group Committee. He has been a long-time advocate for co-ops having served on the Board of Directors of his own co-op in Eastchester—The Northgate—since 1985, and has served as its Board President since 1990. He is also President of the Garth Road Co-op Council.
Kramer served as a member of the Westchester County Human Rights Commission for 10 years, with terms as both Chair and Vice Chair. He is a past member of the LOFT, the LBGT Community Center serving the Hudson Valley region. In 2010, Westchester Choice Realty was awarded a Certificate of Distinguished Service by the Westchester County Office of the County Executive for its contributions to the LGBT Community.
Richard Haggerty, CEO of HGAR, urged HGAR members to attend the awards dinner. “Celebrate Barry Kramer. He has been in the forefront of HGAR’s efforts to ensure that Realtors obey the letter and spirit of the fair housing laws, to their benefit and the benefit of their communities,” Haggerty said.
Tickets for the dinner are $75 each. There will be a cash bar. Tables of 10 are priced at $750.
WRO, a tax-exempt not-for-profit, was founded in 1968 as an anti-discrimination organization and has gradually broadened its counseling and financial assistance roles. It now includes first-time home buying counseling and assistance, housing people living with mental illness, mortgage foreclosure and eviction prevention counseling, housing and entitlement assistance for seniors, and general housing and apartment assistance. WRO has trained many Realtors in fair housing law and practices, and its fair housing staff answers questions from Realtors on a regular basis. WRO is the sole private fair housing agency in Westchester County and is approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a housing counseling agency.
