GATEWAY PERSPECTIVES: Don’t Take Data Accuracy for Granted

Richard Haggerty | November 2018

Data may seem like a pretty mundane, “take it for granted” type of topic, but accurate data is not something we should ever take for granted. HGAR will soon be launching two major initiatives that will rely heavily on accurate data, and we are going to need your help for these initiatives to succeed.

The first initiative is a redesign of our association website, Once launched this new website will have new functionality and a more interpersonal feel where members will be able to track their continuing education requirements and committee involvement in a much more intuitive manner.

My request is a simple one—please utilize the new site and provide us with feedback. We need to ensure that the content and data on the new site meets your needs, from the forms in the library section to the educational offerings to the news features. To accomplish that your input is vitally important and we will soon be launching a series of very brief surveys to help us achieve that. When you receive those surveys, please take the time to provide your feedback—it’s invaluable.

The second initiative involves the launch of a new website,, which has a brand-new home search feature. This website will soon include Manhattan listings, as well as listings from Long Island once the new regional MLS is launched and the listing data from Long Island and Hudson Gateway is combined. If you’d like to take a sneak peak, the site is up and running right now with current data from the Hudson Gateway MLS. If you’d like to offer comments on the site, you can e-mail them to

The ultimate foundation of any effective multiple listing service is accurate data, first and foremost. As we expand our market into Manhattan and the boroughs, data accuracy is going to be paramount—but in some cases, it’s not going to be easy. The current state of data in Manhattan can be especially challenging. However, it is crystal clear, having spoken to dozens upon dozens of brokers in the New York City metropolitan area, everyone values accurate and timely listing data. While it may take some time to get there, we know we need to maintain a laser focus on listing data accuracy and our MLS Participants are the key. Accurate data starts with our Realtor members—please don’t take it for granted.

We will continue to keep our members updated on the progress of the new regional MLS, and we have created a new website solely for that purpose, Be sure to check out the site for the most recent updates on this exciting new venture!
