As I write this article it is 93 degrees in the shade and we’ve been in the midst of a heat wave for several days. Actually most of the summer has been pleasantly hot and dry, but we know that fall is around the corner with cooler days and even cooler nights.

Fall is actually my favorite season. The local farmers markets are packed with produce, pumpkins start to make an appearance, and we get to break out the sweaters. Unfortunately fall is followed by my least favorite season, winter, but we’ll cross our fingers and hope for a gentler and kinder old man winter than we’ve had for the past couple of years.

With the fall comes a burst of activity at the association. The HGAR School of Real Estate kicks into high gear with a boatload of new courses. Today we are conducting two classes, one entitled “Starting as a Real Estate Investor” and the other entitled “Rehabbing and Flipping Properties.” Both classes are packed. We’ve also been working closely with our communications consultant Tracy Weir to develop a new association website that will be easy to navigate and will contain a wide variety of valuable content. Expect more details on the website in the very near future.

On the MLS side we will be conducting a lockbox conversion for all HGMLS Participants and Subscribers, swapping out old lockboxes for the newest Supra lockboxes in the middle of October. This is going to be a very big project involving training and lockbox exchanges at four different locations. Please monitor your e-mail for additional information.

Also, October 19th is HGAR’s Annual Members Day at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown. This year’s program is packed with exciting speakers and programs. In addition to offering classes on the Code of Ethics as well as Realtor Safety, we will also have a legal update from HGAR Legal Counsel Ed Sumber and a prospecting session with tech guru Amy Chorew. Our keynote speaker this year is none other than John Gidding of HGTV’s “Curb Appeal.” The Annual Meeting, when we conduct the official business of the Association, will occur at 3:30 p. m. and will be followed by a celebratory cocktail party.

I’m very pleased to announce that we have added two members to our team here at HGAR. Leon Cameron is our new Director of Legal Service and In-House Legal Counsel. Prior to joining us, Leon was with a law firm in Stamford CT. In addition to his legal duties Leon will take over the professional standards administration for HGAR.

Also joining our team is Cathleen Stack as Director of Marketing. Until recently Cathleen was the Director of Digital Marketing for the Daily Voice and prior to that was the Vice President for Member Development for RISMedia. Cathleen is going to team with our Communications Director Mary Prenon to help get the word out about all of the products and services offered by HGAR. She’ll also be visiting offices and trying to meet as many of our members as possible.

As you can see, it’s going to be a very busy fall for HGAR. We hope that you take advantage of all that HGAR has to offer. We also hope that you attend the HGAR Annual Member’s Day on October 19th. We truly believe that’s your day to learn, mingle with your fellow HGAR members, and celebrate another successful year for the Association.
