PRESIDENT'S CORNER: Happy Holidays
Ron Garafalo | December 2019
As I finish my year as President of the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors, I want to say thank you to all of my HGAR colleagues for giving me the honor to serve as our association’s president. I also want to thank all of our members for supporting all our events throughout the year.
The staff of HGAR did and continues to do an amazing job for all of us. The Board of Directors for HGAR, HGMLS (soon to be OneKey) and the HG Realtor Foundation were instrumental in all that was achieved this year. Thank you to all of those who served on committees that are so integral to all we do.
My year as President was such an exciting year. I met so many people, went to so many events and learned a great deal. As I said when I applied to be President-elect, our association is a great association, and one that is respected throughout the state and the country. My goal when the year started was to continue the positivity in all we do, and hopefully, keep that going and make some additional positive changes that will improve all we do.
As we all finish off what was a very busy year in real estate, I have some final thoughts that I want to leave you with. First, I encourage all of you to get involved. Attend our events, join a committee and go to our classes. I assure you that you will meet other great agents, learn something that will improve your business and have a good time doing so.
Secondly, I urge all of you to contribute to RPAC (the Realtor’s Political Action Committee). RPAC is our voice in local, state and national politics. It is not partisan in any way. RPAC supports candidates that support us, Realtors. There are always issues that we need to support and others we need to fight in our goal of supporting home ownership. The most effective way to do that is to have a voice. That voice is RPAC.
We are all getting our HGAR dues bill this month. Please (I can’t say that strongly enough) include at least the suggested $35.00 contribution with your dues payment. I believe that we, as Realtors, have an obligation to do so. It is that important. Even though my year as President will be over shortly, I am not going away quietly. I will serve as the chairperson of the RPAC Committee in 2020 along with Carol Christiansen, and you will be hearing from us.
Next, as I have been saying all year, we have an obligation as Realtors to always work in an ethical and professional manner, and to always do what is in the best interest of our clients, while treating all parties honestly. I have been fortunate that I have taught the Code of Ethics for more than 15 years and have been able to talk about the Code to thousands of agents.
For our clients’ benefit and yours as well, I encourage you to remember the pledge we all took when we got our license, to follow our Code of Ethics. Read it regularly, talk about it with your fellow agents and most importantly—Live it. Not only is it the right thing to do, but I truly believe your business will benefit as well. People want to work with those who are honest, ethical and professional. If you want to step it up a notch, consider taking NAR’s C2EX, which is the National Association of Realtors Commitment to Excellence.
Lastly, I want to wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday season, and wish all of you a happy, healthy and successful 2020.
I thank you again for giving me the honor to serve as your 2019 President. It was one amazing journey, and one I will never forget.
