PRESIDENT'S CORNER: Please Get Involved With HGAR!

Ron Garafalo | January 2019

Happy New Year to all of my friends at HGAR. I am truly honored to serve as your 2019 HGAR President. I want to thank our immediate Past President Barry Kramer for the exceptional job he did in 2018, as well as all of the members of the Board of Directors for their hard work though out the year.

Two years ago, as a director on the board, I applied for the position of President-Elect. One of the questions that was asked by the nominating committee was why I wanted to be President Elect and the following year President? My answer to that question was: “I am passionate about our association and passionate about what we all do as Realtors.” I have known for many years that we have a great association. As I’ve traveled to NAR and NYSAR meetings, I’ve seen and heard so often that our association is one that is known throughout the country, and is viewed as a leader as well.

At the same time, I strongly believe in what we do as Realtors. We are entrusted with what is the biggest financial decision most people will make in their lives. Our goal, as our Code of Ethics so impressively sets forth, is to work in a manner that is in the best interest of our clients. As an instructor of the Code of Ethics for more than 15 years, I believe those words are very powerful. The results of our actions help determine where our clients will find their piece of the American Dream. How can I not be passionate about that?

This year there are many things that we have to look forward to. For example, HGMLS and the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island are forming a new joint entity and the result will be more information, more resources and the ability to tell our sellers that when listing with us, their home will be seen by more than 35,000 Realtors. We are expanding our presence in Manhattan, the largest real estate market in the country. Our Hudson Gateway REALTOR Foundation, which has donated thousands of dollars to Hudson Valley charities, will continue to assist worthwhile charities and non-profits in 2019. I am happy to report that the Hudson Gateway REALTOR Foundation, the charitable arm of the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors, donated a total of $81,450 to 26 charities and non-profit organizations throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond in 2018.

We will also continue to be a voice in shaping the landscape politically. Our committees will be working hard to make our association as valuable as it can be. Our Education offerings are continuing to grow. Of course, none of this would be possible without our amazing staff (thank them whenever you have the chance).

I realize that my role as President, and the role of our entire Board of Directors, is to make sure all that we do is in your best interest, and to make being a member of HGAR as valuable as we can. What I ask of myself and all of you is to join us in this effort. Remember that we all pledge to follow the Realtor Code of Ethics, and work in the most professional and ethical manner possible. Get involved by joining a committee or attending our events. Please if you haven’t already done so, contribute to RPAC (if you’ve already contributed, thank you). It is the most important investment you can make in your business.

Lastly, I want to say thank you for entrusting me to be your 2019 HGAR President. I wish all of you a happy, healthy and successful 2019. I hope to see you at many of our upcoming events, and I thank you for being part of our great association.
