PRESIDENT'S CORNER: ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’

For those of you who were unable to attend our Centennial and Installation Celebration on Jan. 21st, you would have been proud and amazed at the style with which we commemorated our past accomplishments and how capable we are of facing the challenges ahead. I would venture to say that the old adage, “Work hard, play hard” applies to our association and its members.

We certainly know how to put on a good party and, I believe, we can all agree that we had to work very hard so that celebrations like that of Jan 21st could be possible. Although we will continue to celebrate our achievements throughout the year with special events that remind us how far we’ve come, there is still much hard work ahead of us.

One of our initiatives this year is to make sure all our members are aware of the value of our association. In my effort to promote the many advantages of this association for its members, I would like to use this platform to highlight the labors of our different committees

One of the most underrated benefits offered by our association is under the auspices of the Member Perks Committee. Over the course of the past few years, this committee has identified specific vendors to recruit as Affiliate Members of our association that have helped broaden our understanding of the size and scope of the region’s real estate industry as well as the breadth of HGAR’s membership. As an added benefit, the committee has successfully encouraged these companies to become Member Perks Partners that offer HGAR members substantial discounts. Because there are too many companies to mention here, I urge you to visit our website, www.hgar.com. Once you are logged in, click on the Resources tab and then click on Members Perk and there you will find a complete list of our Partners and a link to become a member of the Member Perks program. The names of these vendors are also always included in both our monthly printed issue and on-line versions of Real Estate In Depth.

It is because of these perks, and many other benefits not mentioned here, that we pay dues to our association. It is only fitting of me to mention at this time that our HGAR annual dues are one of the lowest in the country at $213. Some of you may ask: “Why am I paying $458?” As members of both the New York State Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors, we can obtain savings from an even wider group of providers, ranging from health insurance programs to auto purchases to independent 401K plans. Both your state and national associations have been diligent in securing lower costs for its members and it is for this reason that the added dues of $90 and $155 a year respectively brings your total annual dues to $458.

My goal is not only to enlighten you on how helpful this association can be to the growth of your business, but also to encourage you to be a part of the process and join one of our committees.
