Annual Members Day to Feature Mel Robbins of CNN as Keynote Speaker

Mel Robbins, of CNN, HGAR Annual Meeting Keynote Speaker

TARRYTOWN – Just one day before Halloween, some 1,000 Realtors are expected to converge on the DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown for HGAR’s 101st Annual Member Appreciation Day. The Monday, October 30 day-long event will feature Mel Robbins of CNN as the keynote speaker. This free event, open to all HGAR members, will be drawing Realtors from the Bronx, Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland and Orange Counties, as well as Manhattan.

Robbins is an award-winning on-air analyst for CNN and has been named “America’s Outstanding Talk Show Host.” She has appeared on a wide range of talk shows including Oprah, Dr. Phil, Good Morning America, and Fox News. A third generation entrepreneur, she has launched and sold two companies and currently owns and operates a multi-million dollar publishing and speaking business.

Robbins has trained executive teams at some of the world’s leading brands such as Johnson & Johnson, Chase Business, the PGA Tour and more. She is also a contributing editor for SUCCESS Magazine and is continually featured in national publications like the New York Times and Inc. Magazine. A Dartmouth College and Boston College Law School graduate, she and her husband of 20 years have three children and live outside of Boston.

Other free events of the day will include a class on “Realtor Safety,” presented by Carl Carter, the son of Beverly Carter, an Executive Broker in North Little Rock, Arkansas, who was kidnapped and murdered in September 2014 while showing a house. Since her death, Carl Carter has spoken to tens of thousands of real estate professionals across the nation. He also founded the Beverly Carter Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing safety support for Realtors.

Leon Cameron, HGAR Director of Legal Services, and Leah Caro, an HGAR instructor and Realtor, will offer a “Fair and Ethical Housing” class with real-life scenarios for complying with federal, state and local rules for Fair Housing and Ethics. The class can be taken for free for no CE credit, or for $25 for 3 CE credits.

Stacey Cohen, an award-winning brand professional and owner of Co-Communications, will present “Uniquely You: Building a Winning Personal Brand for Realtors.” Cohen is also a blogger at The Huffington Post and has been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, Forbes, Crain’s New York Business, Sales & Marketing and other national publications.

Bruce Mishkin and Bruce Apar of Pinpoint Marketing & Design will present “How to Make Google Your Best Friend, or Your Worse Enemy.” The seminar will help Realtors to better connect with buyers and sellers using“Google Ad Words,” search engine optimization, and much more.

In addition to serving boxed lunches, HGAR will also offer a special plated luncheon featuring The Journal News Tax Watch Columnist, David McKay Wilson. He will discuss “Tales from New York’s Broken Property Tax System.” This special luncheon is $65, with all proceeds going to support RPAC, the Realtors Political Action Committee.

Members Day will also include a trade show with more than 70 vendors, an Annual Meeting, and a Celebration Cocktail Party to acknowledge the HGAR Realtor of the year and HGAR Affiliate Member of the Year, along with other awards. “Last year’s event was one of our most successful with more than 1,000 agents attending, and this year we’re expecting even more this year,” said Richard Haggerty, HGAR CEO.
